Here is a message from Nurse Jaymi about medications.
Families—
As the cold and flu season approaches, please know that in the state of Kansas, cough drops are considered a medication in school. Any prescription medication or over-the-counter medication, such as cough drops, at school, requires a medication authorization form to be completed by a parent/guardian, and the medication be kept in the health office.

NO SCHOOL on Monday
The 5th graders attended GiveFest today. All local 5th graders were given $10 to donate to an organization of their choice! We read about the organizations before our visit today. While at GiveFest, the students got to chat with people and learn even more. Great experience!
Today, the 4th graders traveled to Pa's Pumpkin Patch in Hays to partake in Ag Day. They attended multiple stations and learned so much.
Lunchbox - the kids got to eat cheese, carrots, and juice while learning how all of these products made it to the consumers
Sunflowers - the kids learned what products sunflowers are used in, such as makeup and lotion. They also learned the parts of a sunflower
Corn - the kids learned how corn grows. Also, they got to put a corn seed in a necklace with a moist cotton ball to germinate.
ATV Safety - They learned what gear to wear when riding, and other information needed to protect yourself when riding
Hay - what is used to feed livestock
KSU/Agriculture - what is agriculture - a foundation to almost everything that we do. Tilled and no till soil
Water - learned about water conservation
Soil - all about soil; what it is, the biology, 5 soil forming factors, soil chemistry, physical properties, keys to healthy soil, and why soil is important
Safety around animals - the kids learned how we should act around animals and signs of an alarmed animal
Dairy cows - what they eat, how they produce milk, and how the milk is collected. Plus, why milk is so good for humans
Wow that cow! - how calves are born
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant program started today. Students will have the opportunity to try fruits and vegetables each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today we had cantaloupe and learned all kinds of fun facts about it. What a sweet treat!
Our students will be participating in the USDA fruits and vegetable program, which is providing our students a type of fruit every Tuesday and a vegetable every Thursday. Our head cook Kathy Desaire wrote the grant and received it for the school. Attached is a flyer that explains a little bit about it. https://5il.co/2ydhl
Congrats to Gage R., Everly M., Chlarys H., and Taegan C. for winning our caught being kind drawing this week. Your integrity and positive attitudes brighten our school!
