The Ellis Jr. High girls basketball team traveled to Russell before Thanksgiving break on Nov. 21st but ended up with a loss going into break. The first half of the game stayed tight with Russell leading at the half by only two points leading Ellis six to four. Ellis was only able to score two additional points in the third quarter while Russell added eight to their score. Final score for the game was Russell 16 to Ellis 12.

Leading scorer for Ellis was shared with Jersee Febrizius and Evelyn Merriman each scoring four points. Taylor Kohl and Rylan Aschenbrenner followed with two points each. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Merriman bringing down 10 boards. Jocelyn Eck had seven followed by Libby Schiel with six. Aschenbrenner had two rebounds and Kohl had one.

In the JV game, the Ellis girls lost with the final score Russell 15 to Ellis 9. Ellis JV held Russell to one point in the first half while Ellis scored eight. Russell came back strong in the last quarter and winning the contest.

Leading scorer for Ellis was Piper McClung with five points and MacKinley Rhoden had four. Leading rebounder for Ellis JV was McClung with 11 boards. Maggie Fitzgerald, Aschenbrenner, Lyla Richards, Dora Bencze and Schiel each had two rebounds. Rhoden and Merriman each had one.

Coach Sheryl Butler commented on the game, “We simply continue to struggle scoring. The shots we take are good shots – we just can’t get the ball to go in. Our defense overall is strong and we run the offense well – we just struggle scoring.”
