On Thursday, January 20, the Lady Railers traveled to Stockton to play the Hoxie Indians for the third round of the MCL tournament. Going into the night with a 3-7 record and seeded 8th in the MCL, the Railers were determined to knock off the 5th seed with a strong performance.
The team started the game with one senior; Maddy Guffey, three Juniors; Emily Eck, Hannah Schiel, and Makenna Kohl and a freshman; Isabella Eck. The Railers were able to outscore the Indians in the first quarter 14-12 and also in the second, ending the half 32-26. The score was close throughout the whole second half, looking like the win could be awarded to either team. The Railers were down by three points with 13.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter. They were able to get the ball up the court to Lakyn Fischer for a 3 point shot to tie the game. With some made and missed free-throws in the 1st overtime, the Railers went into a second overtime where they fought hard to win the game by six.
Leading scorers were: Hannah Schiel, 18; Emily Eck, 16; Isabella Eck, 16.
The Lady Railers will travel to Plainville on Saturday, January 22, to play for 5th place against Oakley. That game will be at 10:00 a.m. in the cardinal gym.
