Ellis Vs. Norton
Ellis Jr. High girls basketball team hosted the Norton Bluejays on Dec. 13th. The contest was a very close one throughout the entire game. Norton only led by one at the end of the first quarter and continued to lead by one going into the half with the score of Norton 18 to Ellis 17. Ellis girls held Norton to no scoring in the third quarter while Ellis scored an additional six point putting Ellis in the lead at the end of the third quarter 23 to 18. In the fourth quarter, Norton was able to play catch up and was behind by three when Norton put up a ‘three’ and it went in -tying the game at 27 at the end of regulation play which sent the game into overtime. Norton ended up winning the game by three points in overtime 32 to 29.
Leading scorers for Ellis was shared with Payten Burd and Gracelynn Hamel with eight points each. Avery Boydston had six followed by Reagan Jiminez with five and Jocelyn Eck had two. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Hamel with 17. Boydston had 13 boards, Jiminez had six and Burd, Eck and Leah Reed each had two. Ellis had a total of 42 rebounds to Norton’s 25.
In the J.V. contest, it was another close one. Norton led at the half by one point, 13 to 12. At the end of the third quarter, Norton continued to lead by one 19 to 18. Norton ended up winning by three points 23 to Ellis 20.
Leading scorers for Ellis JV was shared by Jersee Fabrizius and Taylor Kohl each with seven points. Sienna Schmidt had six. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Kia Mader with eight, followed by Kohl with seven. Schmidt had three rebounds followed by Maggie Fitzgerald and Fabrizius with two and Tayler Schmidt had one. Just like the varsity, the J.V. out-rebounded Norton 22 to 8.

The Ellis Jr. High Junior Varsity girls basketball team traveled to Smith Center for their final game of the season. The two teams had met in the MCEL tournament and Ellis continued to be hampered by Smith Center’s press. Ellis had limited scoring throughout the contest due to the struggle with the press, inability for shots to go in and early foul trouble. Smith Center won the contest 38 to 8.
Scorers for Ellis each with two points were Jocelyn Eck, Avery Boydston, Leah Reed and Sienna Schmidt. Leading rebounder for Ellis wa Gracelynn Hamel with six followed by Boydston with five. Payten Burd had three boards, Eck and Reed each had two and Schmidt and Jiminez each had one.
In the J.V. contest, Ellis struggled with scoring and fouls. Ellis was hampered by being short a J.V. player due to last minute illness, leaving only one sub. Jersee Fabrizius hurt her ankle early in the first quarter leaving only five players remaining on the roster. Kia Mader fouled out in the fourth quarter and Leah Reed stepped in from varsity so that the contest could be played. At the half Smith Center lead 10 to 5. The final score was Smith Center 26 to Ellis 17.
Leading scorer for Ellis was Sienna Schmidt with eight points. Piper McClung and Mader each had three, Fabrizius had two and Taylor Kohl had one point. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Mader with seven. Kohl had four boards, Fitzgerald had two and McClung had one.
