The USD 388 Education Foundation is applying for tax credits through the Kansas Commerce Department in order to secure the final funds needed for the construction of a new daycare center.

The Ellis Childcare Coalition is currently planning to build and equip a facility that will be managed by USD 388 Public School. The center (serving up to 12 children) will be located on USD 388 land—in an unused portion of the grade school playground.

While the district has secured approximately 85% of the project budget through grants and donations, it is applying for tax credits through the Kansas Department of Commerce to help complete fundraising.

The district is asking for your formal pledge of support for the Ellis Childcare Initiative in Ellis, which seeks to address a critical need for more childcare.

Pledges of Support Needed for Tax Credits

As part of the application for tax credits, pledges and/or letters of support from community partners are needed. Your support—whether financial or in-kind—would make a critical difference in the efforts to secure a significant amount of tax credits available.

These are 70% tax credits, and they are refundable and transferable. In-kind donations are also eligible for tax credits. Stock gifts and RMDs from IRAs are welcome, as well. (Contact us if you have more questions about this.)

Tax credits are a great fundraising tool, as they may allow us to attract donors from outside our community who are looking for tax relief.

For more information on how these tax credits work or to discuss the eligibility of your donation, please email Janice Wilson, USD 388 Superintendent.

The USD 388 Education Foundation is requesting that pledges and letters of support be submitted as soon as possible—the deadline for the tax credit application is April 30th.

Please email your pledge letters and/or letters of support to jwilson@usd388.com. If you have any questions or would like additional project details, don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you in advance!
